The Westover Triangle Project

The City of Albany has partnered with the Albany Westover Community Improvement District to advance the Westover Triangle Project, which improves traffic operations and pedestrian safety at three key commercial intersections. The partners are pursuing state funding through the Transportation Alternatives program and the Georgia Transportation Infrastructure Bank to support design and construction.

The project focuses on upgrades at Dawson Road and Westover Boulevard, Old Dawson Road and Dawson Road, and Old Dawson Road and Westover Boulevard. Planned improvements include new signalization, physical enhancements, and connected sidewalks linking the intersections to provide safe access to surrounding businesses. Two intersections are in final design using city TSPLOST funds, and the CID is funding design for the third. Kimley-Horn is leading design for the intersections and sidewalks.

The partnership strengthens cooperation between the city and CID to secure outside funding and accelerate construction, though it requires coordination across agencies and identification of potential funding gaps. Some right of way acquisition is also needed. The CID is submitting a Transportation Alternatives grant application for sidewalk funding and is pursuing a GTIB grant or loan as the application window opens. Both partners are working together to identify any remaining funding needed beyond the estimated $2 million in TSPLOST-funded construction for the intersections already in design.
